How to Host a Foolproof Brunch

I am certainly no whiz in the kitchen.  I don’t aspire to cook and delegate as much meal preparation as possible.  However, I do enjoy hosting meals, especially brunch.  I love creating a warm and welcoming environment, and gathering family and friends together.  Below is my tried and true list for hosting a foolproof brunch, even if you cannot toast a piece of bread (only a slight exaggeration in my case, really):


  1. Set the table the night (or even two nights) before (another post on this to come);
  2. Create a mimosa/bellini bar – everyone loves champagne/prosecco and no one will notice you forgot to put out the butter after a mimosa or two;
  3. Pitcher of water with ice;
  4. Croissants, brioche and baguettes are the perfect cornerstone to a foolproof brunch (extra points for scones);
  5. Butter, specialty jams, lemon curd, clotted cream and Nutella (or as we call it at our house, chocolate jam);
  6. Coffee (it is brunch, enough said) – don’t forget milk/sugar;
  7. Yogurt and granola (make sure you put out spoons);
  8. Fruit bowl;
  9. Fresh flowers;
  10. Music (Play Music app).
