Whenever I can’t decide what to wear, I default to a monochromatic look like this white eyelet tunic dress. Usually all white or all black with neutral accessories. Wearing only one colour immediately elevates any outfit, especially during the summer when shorts and a tank top can feel just a bit too casual sometimes.
This is one of my all-time favourite go-to dresses (even if it it is white and Labour Day was yesterday). It is perfect for the end of the summer as temps start to cool off just a bit but it is still hot (how is it already September!??!). This dress also continues my love affair with eyelets – the eyelet detail is summery and elevates the look but the longer sleeves make it the perfect dress to begin the transition to autumn. I am all about outfits that require minimal decision-making and this dress is just so easy – pop it on, add neutral accessories, and you’re out the door all put together. I think that’s why I generally favour dresses during the summer months – they’re just so easy. To be honest though, I tend to favour dresses pretty much all year for the same reason.
And neutral accessories are some of my favourites because they go with almost everything from a basic, monochromatic look like this one to a more trendy, busy outfit. During the summer, in particular I opt for smaller bags, usually a cross-body style. I do like to find bags that can fit a pair of flats or flip flops in them is possible, but I’ll forgo that functionality for style pretty much any day of the week. I think it is from years of living in New York, I always like to have a pair of flats with me just in case.
For summer shoes, I like to have a good, comfortable neutral sandal (I love the Tkees flip flops – you can barely see that you’re wearing them; read my post about them here), wedge (bonus, they’re 50% off!) and heeled sandal in the summer. This summer I’m continuing to wear all three, but my Stuart Weitzman Nudist sandals are so timeless that they are perfect year-round (and year after year). You can pretty much wear get through every summer occasion with these shoes.
I wanted to also share that although we are generally back to regularly-scheduled programming, many in Houston are still struggling with the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. I’ve seen a fair amount of backlash from people upset with bloggers and content creators for moving on from such a devastating tragedy so quickly. We continue to clean out closets for donations and volunteer in any way we can, but we are also working towards pre-Harvey normalcy.
